Sender: •••@••.••• (Marilyn Davis) Richard gave us a vision for charging for copyright messages. I must say that I really appreciate these creative ideas. This is what's needed! > Does someone have a better vision-scenario in mind? No, I don't. These are terribly hard problems. But, if I write a poem, and I spam it to 100000 email addresses, some of them will take a peek and I'll get my nickel. We don't want to encourage that. Come to think of it, in the case of ISP charges, do I get charged when I use bandwidth to send, to receive, or both? I have no control over what I receive because I use smtp. If we charge by bandwidth sent, does it get multiplied when I send to an email list? Does the email list service provider pay for the big increase in bandwidth? I think the ISP scheme you described works best for web accesses. Perhaps as part of the scheme we should declare that text-based communication is democracy-enhancing and so cheap that it should be part of universal service. * Marilyn * * * Marilyn Davis, Ph.D.-------------- * ---- eVote - online voting software | * To participate in the beta 3790 El Camino Real, #147 * * write •••@••.••• Palo Alto, CA 94306 USA * * (415) 493-3631 ------------- * * -------- •••@••.••• ------- * ~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~-~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~ Posted by Andrew Oram - •••@••.••• - Moderator: CYBER-RIGHTS (CPSR) Cyber-Rights: http://www.cpsr.org/cpsr/nii/cyber-rights/ ftp://www.cpsr.org/cpsr/nii/cyber-rights/Library/ CyberJournal: (WWW or FTP) --> ftp://ftp.iol.ie/users/rkmoore Materials may be reposted in their _entirety_ for non-commercial use. ~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~-~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=~
