cr> Telecom Bill Goes to Floor Tomorrow

1996-01-31

Craig A. Johnson

Gingrich's press secretary, Tony Blankely and House Commerce
Committee Chair Tom Bliley were saying late today the telecom bill
will go to the floor for a vote tomorrow, after it is considered in
the Rules Committee.

The conference report was supposed to have been signed this
afternoon. The official line is that the bill is unchanged, and
that no changes in the "indecency" provisions have taken place, even
though House Telecom Subcommittee Chair Jack Fields and others were
pushing to change that language as well as the foreign investment
restrictions.

It is unclear whether the Senate will also debate the bill tomorrow,
with earlier reports saying that that Dole wants to bring it up, and
later ones saying he is out of town campaigning in Iowa.
